Stone Hide Mountain Troll

Stonehide Troll

Classification: Mountain Troll Variant
Habitat: High-altitude caverns, cliffside ruins, and glacial valleys
Threat Level: High

Once ordinary trolls driven into the most unforgiving mountain ranges, Stonehides have adapted through centuries of exposure to brutal cold, thin air, and the unrelenting bite of stone and frost. Their flesh has undergone a grotesque transformation — a fusion of skin and mineral that grants them near-impervious protection.

The troll’s outer hide resembles cracked stone, dense and jagged, formed from layers of ossified dermis. Between these plates lie seams of softer, living tissue that flex and bleed when cut — though even these “weak points” can turn blades with ease. This unique armor allows the Stonehide to shrug off arrows, withstand avalanches, and batter down fortress gates with its bare hands.

Its immense club, often fashioned from the femur of some equally titanic prey, serves less as a weapon and more as an extension of its sheer brutality. When enraged, the Stonehide’s cracks emit a faint red glow — friction heat from muscle and mineral grinding together, signaling that the creature is channeling every ounce of its strength into destruction.

Behavior: Territorial, highly aggressive toward intruders. Known to crush boulders into dust as a display of dominance.
Weakness: The exposed skin between stone plates is vulnerable to fire and corrosive substances.
Notable Encounter: “The Siege of Frostspire” — where a single Stonehide shattered the northern gate and nearly brought down the fortress walls before being buried beneath the avalanche it caused.
